One of the most important decisions you have to make when it comes to any vacation is when to take it. This is especially true of a trip to Walt Disney World. Your vacation is competing with that of over 58 million other people's vacations, so it's important to know what you're up against.
2025
There are so many variables to contend with when it comes to planning a trip to the most magical place on Earth. I'm going to organize this by month for ease of reading. Please note that these dates are for 2025. The dates for other years will be similar, but may vary by a day or two.
January
1/1
New Year's Eve and New Year's Day feature special countdown fireworks in the Magic Kingdom, so they can be a lot of fun, however; these days draw incredibly high crowds (see below)
1/1 - 1/5
Avoid early January if possible. Crowds are still high due to winter breaks, early-arriving RunDisney runners, and the lack of annual pass blackout dates.
1/9 - 1/12
This is a RunDisney weekend. Crowds will be high, park hours may be impacted, and traffic will be rerouted, making for increased wait times for buses and travel.
1/12-2/20ish: Festival of the Arts
The dates for this festival for 2025 have yet to be released, but have traditionally been around 1/12 to 2/20.
Mid January
This can be a really good time to go if you don't mind it being a little cold.
1/29 - 2/3ish
Major dance competitions will be in the area. The parks aren't usually too impacted, but the value resorts will be busy.
Average Temperature
High of 70°F, Low of 52°F

The dates for this festival for 2025 have yet to be released, but have traditionally been around 1/12 to 2/20.
2/5 - 2/10ish
Cheer competitions take place in Orlando. Like with the dance competitions, the areas most impacted by this will be the value resorts and ESPN Wide World of Sports.
2/13 - 2/22: Presidents' Day
This week marks the mid-winter break for many districts, which means more crowds at the parks.
2/23 - 2/26
Another race weekend, the RunDisney Princess Half Marathon.
Late February/Early March
Start of the Flower and Garden Festival in Epcot.
Average Temperature
High of 74°F, Low of 55°F
March

Mardi Gras falls on 3/4 in 2025. Note that either weekend around Mardi Gras may be busy.

Thanksgiving week is always insanely busy in the parks. When I worked Thanksgiving in 2016, it was the first day of the year to see the Magic Kingdom reach capacity and turn guests away to go to other Disney parks.
