Entering the magical world of Disney feels like stepping into a dream where everything sparkles with wonder. The rides, the shows, the characters—everything is so exciting! But let's be real, it can also get crazy crowded and tiring. Taking a break amidst all that Disney fun isn't just a good idea, it's necessary if you want to enjoy the magic without feeling overwhelmed by the crowds and hustle.
Here are my top three 3 favorite spots in the Magic Kingdom to sit down, kick my feet up, and just watch the world go by. Places are listed in no particular order.
Magic Kingdom
The Side Street on Main Street, U.S.A. - About halfway down Main Street, between Uptown Jewelers and the Crystal Arts store, there is a "side street". It typically features a silhouette artist at a cart. Going further down the street, you will see tables and chairs. At the end of the street, cast members may bustle into and out of a very nondescript opening in the wall. Fans of the former Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game will recognize this area for serving as a portal. - Why I love this area:
It's shaded by the buildings, so it's always relatively cool, even when it's sunny.
The details are insane. Sit under the double window marked "Music and Dance Lessons"; you'll see why.
There's nothing in it other than what I described, so it's a great spot for getting away from people when the rest of Disney is just too, well, peopley.
2. Columbia Harbour House - This is a quick-service location right on the edge of Liberty Square, between Liberty Square and Fantasyland. Technically, part of the restaurant is in Fantasyland, so the whole thing serves as a kind of bridging area between the two themes. It's also across from the Haunted Mansion. Most people will go in, get their food, and grab the nearest table that they see. You're not going to do that. You're going to come in, get food if you want to (but there's no reason you have to if you're just looking to rest!), and go straight upstairs. - Why I love this area:
The weather-proofing--it's indoors, so you get to revel in that sweet, sweet air conditioning when it's insanely hot, but also get cover when it's pouring buckets.
If you time it exactly right and sit in exactly the right area, you might get to see the parade from in here.
The food is some of my favorite quick service in the park.
Again, theming! While not quite as fun as the windows on Main Street, it can still be fun to really soak up the story through all of the knickknacks on the walls.
3. Seating Area by Big Top Souvenirs - At the very back of the park, you will find Storybook Circus! This area has a ton of little nooks and crannies to rest in. The land is a part of what used to be called New Fantasyland and is now just Fantasyland, and is on the other side of Tron. Big Top Souvenirs is the circus tent that sells merchandise and confections. Coming from the Fantasyland entrance, it'll be on the left. Go past that, around the back of Casey Junior's Splash'N'Soak Station, to find a quiet seating area. During the Halloween parties, this area typically serves as a meet and greet. - Why I love this area:
It's a great place to people watch. You're removed from the action around Dumbo and the Barnstormer, but you can still see it.
It's quiet. I think the location kind of in between buildings keeps this area so quiet. It would be a good spot to do work or take a phone call.
You can slip into the store if you need a snack, A/C, or to get out of the rain.
You can sit and watch in peace as your kids play at the splash pad - a win/win.
There you have it! My top three favorite locations to take a break in Magic Kingdom. This was actually kind of a hard list to put together, because if you know where to look, you can find a perfect spot for you anywhere that you are! Honorable mentions go to Tom Sawyer's Island, the hub grass, and currently, but only until the opening of Tiana's Bayou Adventure, the bathroom area by the Frontierland train station.
Do you carve out break time while you're in Magic Kingdom? Or does it work better for your family to go back to your hotel and get out of the park for a while? Let me know!
